In our continuing quest for the 4000 footer lists – this time for the New England Highest Hundred – we wanted to check off a few of the summits near Manchester, Vermont – including: Dorset Mountain, Equinox Mountain, and Stratton Mountain – part of the ski resort.
This area of Vermont holds a special place for us – we traditionally spend the holiday season at the Colonial House in Weston. It’s not the first time we’ve visited the Colonial House in the summer (non-snow!) season, but it’s always a unique experience for us – leaves on the trees, greenery, etc.
All of these summits are well-marked, and well-travelled, which meant enjoyable day hikes.
Stratton Mountain
Stratton was a straight out-and-back hike. We started from the Stratton Mountain trailhead off Stratton Arlington rd. There was a small parking area, holding about a dozen cars. It was a beautiful saturday; we were lucky to get a space. Gearing up, we set off – easy trail overall – not much for views while ascending, but some beautiful views, especially from the fire tower (climb-able).
7.55 mi round trip, slightly over 3hrs hiking time.
