The Freedom of Choice

I’m never really one for year-end lists and I promise, this isn’t one of those. Though while reading one of those lists I got triggered with an ah-ha moment. A “best advice” had a quote from philosopher Alan Watts: “You are under no obligation to be the same person you were five minutes ago.”  – wow, that resonated…

As a coach, we use perspective to bring new awareness to our clients – with the intention of bringing them to a place of choice to do something different with the new awareness or new knowledge which has been created.

For me, the quote brings the perspective of time. This moment is different than the last moment and we are under no obligation to be the same as we were. Flipping that around – no obligation creates the notion of choice – we can make a choice to explore something new or try something different in the next moment.

That is the gift of choice we have – in every moment. Not to say it’s easy, and not to say we can always do that, but even recognizing that we have that freedom of choice, can open new possibilities.

What will that choice bring for you?
