Situated about a half-hour north of Banff, Lake Louise is world-renowned for its glacially-fed turquoise color &#8211; of course, attracting the crowds.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was our first exposure to the area, so all was new.  We stayed at a hostel in Lake Louise &#8211; the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/hihostels.ca\/en\/destinations\/alberta\/hi-lake-louise\" target=\"_blank\">Hostel&#8217;s International High Alpine center<\/a> &#8211; an experience similar to some of the mountain houses in Europe and even the front-country <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.outdoors.org\/destinations\/new-hampshire\/highland-center\/\" target=\"_blank\">Highland Center<\/a> of the Appalachian Mountain Club in the Northeast.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_8746-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3890\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_8746-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_8746-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_8746-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_8746-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_8746-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Sunrise at the Lake Louise Hostel<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting to Lake Louise itself is challenging &#8211; parking is VERY limited AND it&#8217;s a very popular attraction.   During the high season, there&#8217;s shuttle buses running from Lake Louise village (and the hostel) to Lake Louise &#8211; definitely worth it &#8211; especially seeing the crowds, RVs, and tour buses at and around the Fairmont.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, we were headed to the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House &#8211; yes, literally a tea house, serving tea, chips, and a few baked goods. Around the lake itself &#8211; the trail was easy, flat, gravel, good footing.   And, of course, that enabled many to be on the trail.   Yea, outdoors!    <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we left the lake behind us, we also gained elevation and that thinned the people on the trail. Our plan was for two cars to head north, on the Icefields Parkway, take in a hike along the way, then say our goodbyes.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recalling the impact of the Jasper wildfires &#8211; parking\/pull-offs on the parkway were closed north of the Columbia Icefields visitor Center.
