{"id":5163,"date":"2025-05-22T05:31:44","date_gmt":"2025-05-22T09:31:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/?p=5163"},"modified":"2026-08-05T07:31:02","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T11:31:02","slug":"bratislava","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/bratislava\/","title":{"rendered":"Bratislava"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>While in <a href=\"https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/vienna\">Vienna<\/a>, we decided on a bit of spontaneity with a day trip to Bratislava &#8211; easily accessible from Vienna via an hour-long boat trip on the Danube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a bit of our real-time research, we&#8217;d discovered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpsmycity.com\/\">GPSmyCity<\/a>, an app which has self-guided walking tours for cities around the world.  Seemed like just the thing to give us some highlights of Bratislava without breaking bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the highlights &#8211; incredibly hard to miss &#8211; is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitbratislava.com\/places\/bratislava-castle\/\">Bratislava Castle<\/a>, perched high on a bluff overlooking the Danube. Created by Viktor Hul\u00edk in 1997, it is one of the most iconic and photographed pieces of street art in the city. The specific design of the man&#8217;s expression, his clothing, and the surrounding cobblestone pattern are unique to this specific location at the intersection of Laurinsk\u00e1 and Pansk\u00e1 streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walking further, we came to a square in front of the French Embassy, with its own street art (bronze statue).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_0443-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5532\" srcset=\"https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_0443-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_0443-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_0443-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_0443-1536x1152.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/peterdittman.com\/weblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/IMG_0443-2048x1536.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Napolean&#8217;s Soldier statue<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>This statue is the famous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpsmycity.com\/attractions\/napoleons-army-soldier-statue-30453.html\">Napoleon&#8217;s Soldier <\/a>statue on a bench at Hlavn\u00e9n\u00e1mestie (Main Square).
