Cinque Terre Trekking
Posted by PeterD on July 10th, 2014 in '13 - Cinque Terre, Italy

Below are some slides from our Italy trip – 26-Sep’13 – 7-Oct’13.   We spent 4 nights in Arezzo, located in central Tuscany.  From there, we headed to Cinque Terre, an Italian National Park on the Ligurian Sea for 3 nights/4 days of trekking in the coastal park. The park is located roughly equi-distant between Pisa and Genoa.

After our stay in 5Terre, we drove another hour up the coast toward Genoa to stay for 2 nights just north of the Parco de Portofino, another Italian national park. Our last two nights in Italy were spent in Florence in a wonderful little apartment near the Ponte Vecchio.

On our first day of hiking, we ascended from Riomaggiore (the southern most of the 5 towns) to the high trail (Trail #1), which followed the ridge above the 5 towns. As we began our descent from the high trail, this was the view looking south, back toward Riomaggiore – you can barely make out Corniglia (the town next to Riomaggiore and the only town without a direct waterfront in the town itself) on the bluff just left of center in the photo.
