Elephant Mountain

This was the start of a week-long peak bagging holiday in the upper parts of Maine. It’s a summit, set apart from others, seemingly not connected by any ridge and only accessible by a bushwhack. But, it’s on the list of the New England highest hundred, so we figured we’d give it a go.

According to 4000footers.com, it’s a short hike, around 2.5mi round trip, and with only a modest elevation gain – a bit over 1,100 ft. AND, it was on the way to our destination in the Rangely region, so it make for an easy stopping off point.

I don’t know what the tipping point is between a herd path and a bushwhack, this one was a bit more bushy and less herdy, still manageable as can be seen from the few photos.

and nothing much in the way of views and all.

In the end, still a nice short leg-stretcher after hours in the car.
