Tecumseh was to be one of our last hikes of the 2011 season – a day hike: a “quick drive” to the Whites, hike, and return home, all in a day.

The morning of 22-Oct-11 dawned overcast, not raining, though some probability of light showers.  We decided to head north, regardless of the weather reports.
Parking in the Waterville valley ski area, the trailhead wasn’t too far off. The leaves had already turned, so there wasn’t much left for foliage scenery. And it had rained the previous day, so the ground cover was wet.

The round-trip book time from the parking lot to the summit is about 3-1/2 hours, for a 5 mile hike.    By the numbers, it sounded like a straightforward hike.

The trail had a steady upward grade and we crossed paths with only one other hiker on the ascent. When we reached the summit, there was another small group of women who had the same idea as we did.

Even on a clear day, there is only limited visibility at the summit. Today, our visit to the summit was even more obscured due to some fog. Still, we managed to grab a quick bite to eat, rest a bit, then off on our merry way…

Not quite a significant peak in the list of the 4000 footers, it was a fairly easy day-hike. But as always, it was good to get out doors for some fresh air and some good companionship.
