We had won a silent auction for a three-night stay in Bar Harbor, making the perfect excuse to plan a trip northward. We’d already visited Acadia National Park a few years back, and we knew there was always more trails to explore. But we hadn’t been to the Canadian Maritimes – Nova Scotia and PEI – together, so it seemed a great opportunity to explore further.

After some exploration, we settled on a road trip itinerary which began with the ferry from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. From there, we decided on Lunenburg, NS – a UNESCO World Heritage site – followed by a drive to Prince Eduard Island, then a return to Bar Harbor for the stay silent auction stay.

While it included a lot of drive time, it is definitely a beautiful region with a slower pace vibe. Sure, still touristy sections and a seasonality not unlike what we have on Cape Cod – yet, a quiet and peaceful area worth the visit.

Nova Scotia

We departed early from Cape Cod to catch the afternoon ferry from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia – about a 6 hour drive. Since it was a Sunday and not quite good beach weather, we were able to make good time and arrived a bit early into Bar Harbor, giving us time to stop for a quick bite to eat at a little restaurant – the Chart Room, where we’d stayed on our last visit to Acadia.
